a turn bet from hero looks pretty powerful, so villain will (presumably) fold a lot of the 1 pair hands that he'd probably bet to protect on the turn if he were checked to

an extra bonus is when he thinks he's committed to call with top pair and a gutshot, etc...

I don't like checking the turn on this particular board, as there are way too many draws out for comfort and too many river cards you'd hate. If villain is on a draw, you just shot yourself in the foot.

I prefer the flop C/R massive overbet shove that looks way too much like a draw itself. It gets called by AA/KK/AQ almost every time (and those are the only hands you beat that are gonna give you much action here).

why is a flop cr more likely to work than a turn cr?

since the flop isn't HU, i'm a little reluctant to go for a cr, since many villains get shy in multiway pots

also, i really don't think villain is on a draw super often due to pf, but if he's on a FD there 2 cards that he'll pay off w/
