how long can you run bad?
I am in the midst of a horrific stretch for the past 5 weeks where everything that can go wrong is going wrong. I have been a winning player for almost 2 years making a supplemental income playing the low-mid nlhe games and the for the past three weeks one of these 3 things have happened ever session:
1)completely card dead for hours 2)completely coolered ex: set over set, flop top 2 against bottom set, kk vs aa preflop etc 3)get all my money in with a huge favorite and get rundown ex: flop top set and get called down w/ overpair and they river 2 outer. I would love to hear from you guys on how long some of you have run really bad because I don't feel like I am ever going to pull out. It is really disheartening and I am honestly thinking of quitting for a while. thx |

Re: how long can you run bad?
well, use pokertracker to analyze every big pot you lose, and decide whether or not you played them optimally
whenever you're in a losing streak, at least in my experience sometimes the line between running bad and playing bad can get blurred...like ill be runnning bad, and then itll change teh way i play, so that when the cards break even ill still lose. hope that helps...btw i dont know if i've had a brutal run of cards last much longer than like, 5000 hands ish gl |

Re: how long can you run bad?
thanks for the replies. 80% of it has been live so not a ton of play online. I know my play has not been perfect and this has slightly put me on tilt sometimes but most of it is just sick bad luck. I can't imagine it can go much longer.

Re: how long can you run bad?
I expected to be playing 10/20 by now.
obviously hit a -30 BI swing 2 months ago, and tampered that. |

Re: how long can you run bad?
if you put in a decent number of hands online, it's virtually impossible to run bad for 4-5 weeks straight at low-mid stakes games... live though you can easily run bad for a month plus

Re: how long can you run bad?
You can run bad indefinitely; it just becomes less likely with each passing day that this is the case, most people play worse during extended cold decking. The best thing to do when you're really getting hammered is to move down in stakes, although most players want to win it all back in one shot which "must be just around the corner cuz they're been runnin so bad", and do the opposite of this and go broke then wonder what happened. This is one of the main reasons most people just can't handle playing poker for a living even if they're good enough at the game itself.
