I heard the story wasn't nearly as good so I never got around to playing it.

Agreed that the story in KOTOR2 isn't as good, but still far better than most other games out there. Also, Jade Empire is by the same people and also fantastic. As for the topic Fight Club, Psycho, and Memento all come immediately to mind.
