One way would be to personify it, kind of like waht they did with the atm avatar.

Another option is:

Happy - shipping a ton of gold coins, I pucture frontal view of the ship and just show it loaded with gold coins.

Angry: puffs of steam

Confused: sinking, with a cannon hole on its side.

They can even do a combination of personification and real life events (like with the antry atm spewing money), I'm sure the guy who made the atm avatar can think of something good.
