how to free up memory?
lately i have been timing out during hands because PokerStars was freezing. i emailed support, and after they requested my logs they determined that when i played i had an average of 75% CPU usage.
i was wondering how i get this down. when i play i have pokertracker, pokerstars, PAHUD, norton 360, and sometimes full tilt running. i run adaware regularly as well as norton's comprehensive scan for virus and spyware. is there anyway i can free up some memory? also, i wouldn't mind closing norton while i play, but i don't see an option to do that anywhere in the program...it seems to be perennially running. one last thing: it seems that using a SQL database for pokertracker - as opposed to an access db - is occupying a ridiculous amount of memory. here is my processes (as they as i write this post - not while i'm playing) sorted by Mem Usage:  as you can see, sqlsrvr.exe and the multiple postgres.exe's are taking up a ton of memory. thanks for any suggestions.

If the CPU is running at 75% then freeing up memory probably wont help. If you click the CPU tab to arrange the colums by CPU usage you will be able to see which processes are using the CPU the most.
I see PA Hud is running at 26%, it can hog the cpu sometimes but it shouldnt be running for long periods of time at 30-40%+. Double check you have the latest version that might fix it.

turn off norton. If you have a firewall you dont need to do continuous scans of your system. Just make sure you know what you are downloading and scan any suspicious attachments. Running a virus utility all the time is huge waste of resources for virtually no gain.
The best thing to do is just scan your system once a week or so.

[/ QUOTE ] I turned it off, it was freezing up my comp too. These are the steps I took in order to do so, hope it helps.. Start / All Programs / Symantec Client Security / Symantec Antivirus Click on FILE / go to Configure / click on File System Auto Protect / remove check mark from Enable Auto-Protect / click OK That's about it...Good Luck!

[/ QUOTE ] Quick fix by uninstalling it? Not a good idea. Norton is a good product and it will be useful to you one day. Just try to fix it so it doesn't start up automatically and you should be fine.
