how much do you actually enjoy poker?

a couple of friends of mine have been on serious losing streaks recently and i asked them, if given the choice to never play poker again but just receive a check each month based on their historical win rate would they take it? both said yes. i told them both that that is the reason they are losing.

i think alot of poker players are caught in a rut where they never really ask themselves why they play. i know it happened to me w/ on-line poker. i was just logging on for money. no hope, no joy, no learning...just money. so i quit. live has dwindled to 1-2 times a week. i still feel i am getting more than money from the game...but that may change. maybe you guys think about this stuff many winning grinders at the casino just dont and are miserable and tilt really creeps in and kills your bankroll at this point.

I hate to sound like an ass, but ya, this is pretty obvious stuff imo. If you enjoy something, you will do a better job at it than if you dont.

I think 95% of casual players would answer 'yes' here, and over 75% of pros would as well.

the numbers would be similar for most jobs in the world.

I don't think it has to do with enjoyment as much as it has to do with having the 'desire to improve/move up the ranks' heavily outweigh 'laziness'. given the way you phrased the question, the former outweighing the latter would be rare.

most people think they enjoy it but they really dont. thats why they would just take the money. i mean ask a few people if they enjoy poker, theyll say yes. then ask them if theyd give it up for their expected earn if they say yes to this then they dont really enjoy it. do you think tiger would give up golf just for his expected yearly take? its not as obvious as you think.

lol...many people play poker when they're bieng "lazy". or are viewed as lazy if they play cards instead of "working". how lazy do you have to be to enjoy cards but not have the energy to play if you could just collect the paycheck.

since when is poker work? when 2,000 people check into the RIO and pay $200 a night do they really think they are going to work? it seems once you see poker as a job you're toast. becuase everyone hates work and when you employ yourself you can fire yourself/slack off. many pro poker players are "quitting" their job and dont even know it.

would you rather get money for doing something, or money for doing nothing? nothing, obviously. which is why the question in your OP is loaded and the answer is obvious. it has little to do with the activity in question.
