Woman kicked out for drinking.
Playing last night, a woman at my table got kicked out of the casino. They said it was for being too drunk. By my estimate she had had 5 glasses of wine in 3 hours and was still functioning. She was causing no problems of any sort (not loud, not beligerent). Rather than just stop serving her, they gave her the boot with no warning. This seemed very odd to me, but is this standard procedure for some casinos?

This is standard in Arizona. If the wait staff thinks you're drunk (subjective, certainly) they've got to inform the floor. Depending on who that is you might get kicked out. They'll offer you taxi service and I've heard that if you drive off they have the reservation police waiting for you.
The *best* was Ft. McDowell when I used to play there. We had a real live one in a fellow called The Colonel. He did nothing but raise. He'd shout *MAXI!* and raise almost always. He drank bourbon after bourbon but he came with a driver so there was no problem w/ drunk driving. The casino had NO problem bringing him bourbon after bourbon but as soon as the waitress decided they'd gotten him drunk they'd throw him out. It was hysterical and happened time after time despite the mocking the other players used to heap on the floor guy.

I see no reason not to allow a drunk person to play in a casino if he/she is not causing any problems for other players. The drunk is not harming anyone in the casino but could easily be on the roads. If the casino gets someone drunk by serving them and then sends them out on the road, I hope they are prosecuted, as bars are in some jurisdictions.

[/ QUOTE ] In AZ they don't automatically kick them out. It seems to be arbitrary sometimes. Anyway, I was sitting next to a guy who was completely blasted a few years ago. I saw the floor guys talking about what to do w/ him. I went over and said that I knew he lived a couple of hours drive away (in Tucson) and that to put him in his car would be murder. They let him stay. But I've seen them throw out far less drunk people. Here's a *laugh*. A few months ago I watch a floor guy explain to a drunk player that he had 2 choices. He could stay and play but not drink anymore or he had to leave. The player said he'd stay. While the floor guy is still there the player yells *COCKTAILS!* so the floor guy asks if he's joking and the guy says no he's going to stay and drink. So, blah, blah, blah, the player doesn't get it, gets huffy and security comes and heaves him out. Some people should just not drink.

Some interesting discussion ensued, re: the casino's potential financial liability if they continue to serve an obviously intoxicated person.
