Default online vs. live

If this in the wrong forum, I apologize. I am trying to figure out why I play so horrific online and if anyone else has had this problem.

I play live every other week and have amazing patience and play good TAG poker. I am not saying I am great but my results are poitive 2/5 and 5/10 live. When I play online with numerous more hands an hour I play like a total donk, calling crap like A8 oop and always thinking someone is bluffing me.

I am just curious if anyone has had this problem because it seems like it is the exact opposite for most threads that I have read.

I would appreciate any ideas from anyone who has had this problem. Just can't understand why I can play such good poker live and call pot sized bet on the turn with trash playin a $100 table online. I would not think twice about folding this crap live with drinks in me.

Move up to where you respect their raises.

Drink at home when you play online.

I'm guessing one reason is because the limits you're playing online are small enough to where you really don't care if you lose so you don't bring your 'A' game. Where in the live games, you're playing for bigger stakes, so you're forced to pay attention and not play like a donk.

I have the same problem with being up tons of money live and then losing it all online (though I'm starting to come around online). I think most of it has to do with focus.

When I play online I always have windows and stuff running in the background so I can't really get a good enough read at the table. I pride my playing on reading my opponents and outplaying them post-flop in live play and it's really difficult to do online, so I'm forced more to try to play the cards rather than the other players. And with my luck that never works out.

what limits you playing online? Online players are alot better then there off-line counterparts.

If your playing the same limits online as off you will get destroyed.

Online players are much, much better than live players at the same stakes. There are a number of reasons why:

1 - Live, the lowest stakes are $1/$2 NL. Online, the lowest stakes are $.01/$.02 NL. So online the worst players are playing $.01/$.02 NL. Live they're playing $1/$2 NL. Online, $.01/$.02 NL is SIX levels below $1/$2 NL.
2 - Getting into a live game is far more casual than an online game. Live games often have inexperienced players stumble into the game on their way from the blackjack tables to the slots. Online you need to download and install the software, register an account and figure out a way to deposit. Online takes a far greater level of dedication JUST TO GET STARTED.
3 - When a player wants to make more money live, he moves up in stakes. Online, he multi-tables. In this way online players are able to put much more money in play while limiting their exposure in any one hand and avoid playing with better players. Online $.5/$1 NL players can make a nice living out of multi-tabling. There aren't very many live $1/$2 NL pros.
4 - No HUDs or Pokertracker live.
5 - Online players see many more hands per hour, particularly if they multi-table. More hands per hour equals more experience equals better play.
6 - Free alcohol in casinos.

Thanks. I think you actually understand what I was asking. Have been back and forth from Vegas over the past few months playing 2/5 at CP (no cap on buy in) and 2/5 at V ($1,000) cap.

When I am in a casino I am there to play poker and thats it. I see a 3x BB raise online and think to myself a 3x BB raise in a 2/5 game live is just a little pot sweetener.

Just need to adjust my game when online. There are so many donks at the 1/2 and .5/1 tables that it is a shame I donk my money off just to see if they actually have something. I can fold for 2 hours straight in a casino but at home I feel like there is no action or something if I fold for an orbit. This is what I was trying to get at with my post.

If you find yourself getting bored whilst playing online then multitable or if you already are, add a table or two. I find that ive got a certain number of tables where I get a balance between always having something to do and not being stressed out and that I play good poker then...beats dont bother me too much because ive already moved to the next decision.
