Default Poor c-bet? (NL$1000)

Villain is an 18.5/12.5/1.75 (1000+)

I really wasn't sure what my flop play should be here. I have some showdown value and also draw value and the only scare card is an ace. My bet folds out all hands I beat and probably none that I don't beat with the exception of Jx perhaps. In retrospect it seems like I shouldn't have bet it since there was a high risk of being raised out of the pot when I have some proper value. Advice appreciated.

I think betting does not make much sense since I don't think it is a bluff, nor is it for value? I think that even if he never raises you out of the pot a check is best.

i call it a semi bluff myself. this is a very standard hand fwiw.

double barrel if you think he floats with a jack, or if an ace/king/eight peels off. easy as pie.

A semibluff is a hand that has to improve to win. TT might be the best hand but not much worse hands call. If it is a (semi)bluff there must be better hands that fold and I can't see a jack folding for a single bet on the turn.

Maybe turning this hand in a bluff could work against some weak opponents? But my standard line is to check (but I do not play 1knl).

Sorry re: NL$1000 error - I forgot this was a NL$600 hand.

The responses someone confirm my theory. There are two schools of initial thought here.

1. Very standard hand, bet.
2. Hmmm, wait a minute this could be a check.

I had thought 1 made the play then quickly followed it up with thought 2 and doubt for all the reasons that prinsrob lists.

I really hope this thread gets some more responses since I think I may do something wrong since many players say it is a bet (so bump :P).

If I get it right: the reason for betting is to get a jack and a weak queen to fold?

Don't forget that another reason in favour of betting is general randomisation of play postflop, even on a dangerous looking board. You shouldn't consider a hand like this in isolation.

I would bet, call a push and reload if I missed my draw.
