Default Any places with vacancies within walking distance of the WSOP?

We were planning on going in late June but on a whim I'm thinking about going there either tomm or next week? With the internet ban are rooms a lot easier find? Any recommendations on which places stay and bear in mind I hate driving in Vegas. And what's the weather been like lately?

Try the Emerald suites at 4777 Cameron Street, across the street from The Orleans. Shuttle bus is available between the Orleans and the Gold Coast, which is across the street from the Rio. $49 a night Sundays-Thursdays and $69 a night on Fridays for a 1-bedroom suite (with kitchen, bathroom, and COX expanded basic analog cable TV). Coupons available at hotelcoupons.com

Rooms at the Gold Coast, the Palms, and the Extended Stay suites on Valley View Avenue, while they are much closer to the Rio than the Emerald suites, are more expensive (especially on Fridays and Saturdays) and should be booked solid on July 3-8.

Bally, Harrahs, Ceasers all ran shuttles from Rio to the home base their respective hotels last year. They ran fairly late from what I recall. Perhaps the folks there this year will elaborate.

It was 105 degrees during mid-day earlier in the week.

Imperial Palace - it's cheap and on the strip. Then grab the aforementioned shuttles from either Harrah's or Caesar's, it worked well for me last year.

Have rooms ever really been hard to find in Vegas?

didn't know how big it is going to be this year or if there were any conventions around. A few years ago I went in March during some Nascar thingy and there was also a convention going on. Couldn't find a room on the strip and had to go like 10 miles off the strip to find a place

Stayed at the Gold Coast in 2005. That's the closest one.

The Palms is the only other one that I would consider reasonable walking distance although you technically can walk there from the strip too...it would just take 30 mins or longer probably and you come out smelling like exhaust after walking across/over the interstate.

If you stay somewhere else like Orleans or IP or somewhere I still favor renting a car over taking the shuttle but that's just me.
Actually, if you think you will spend any time at all away from the Rio and on the strip (playing at Bellagio or Wynn perhaps) then I definitely would recommend renting a car. I think it just makes things easier than trying to catch the shuttle. And taxis are just too darned expensive compared with the price of getting a cheapo rental.
