Default Want to stay awake? Forget Adderall, try Modafinil

I've seen some guys on the boards post about taking Adderall to stay awake. From personal experience, I believe that Modafinil >>>>>>>>>> Adderall or Dexedrine for staying awake. I have taken the above mentioned medication due to my job (they were government administered and issued).

Modafinil has a noticeable impact when you stay awake for extended periods. We are talking about being awake for 50+ hours, sleeping for two hours and then going another ~29 hours before sleeping (this was the scenario I experienced for the Department of Defense testing of this medication and its potential effects). Also, during this time, we were put through actions to cause physical exhaustion and high mental stress. The drug enhances recovery periods from physical exertion when compared to recovery time from the same action when not taking Modafinil. Even with extended periods of sleep deprivation, you maintain an acceptable amount of alertness and motor skills for most tasks (far more than what you have when not on any medication).

Not only did the Modafinil visibly enhance the Team's performance but it has also been shown to enhance data retention and memory recollection.

There were some other, more advance offshoots of Modafinil that not only do everything that it does but these other versions also enhance one's senses (for any of you who have played sports, it's like they put you and keep you in the "zone"). They also allow for even quicker physical recovery than what you would experience with Modafinil. We started to call these the "Superman Cocktail" and I can't wait until this series get approved for regular use.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: IMO Modafinil >>>>>>>>>> Adderall for staying awake and avoiding the effects of sleep deprivation.

I need to get me some of this. I could use something to wake me up and enhance my crappy memory. Apparently it increases mood and friendliness too, also things I need.

I have tons of Modafinil and can get pretty easy access to it (easier than Adderall, anyway). That being said:

1) I spoke to a lot of doctors well-versed in sleep research and brain chemistry regarding the drug, and the overwhelming majority said that they felt it would not be a good thing to take recreationally. The strange interactions with the histamine center of your brain are not known whatsoever, and could cause significant problems down the line.

2) It is pretty damn effective.

3) No, I'm not going to tell you where to buy it.

4) I stopped taking it for reason #1 on this list along with other side effects that the drug caused.

Modafinil should be taken if you are narcoleptic or because you're flying a fighter jet on a 36 hour mission, not because you want to play a long session at the local B&M.

You can't cheat your brain's need for downtime. Just like with adderall, extended use will take it's toll one way or the other.
