Default Spyware: Renos - -- Help needed

Hi:

Everytime I start my computer up(running windows vista), I constantly get the message that 'windows is restarting,' and 'windows has stopped working,' and I am then unable to do anything. Eventually everything disappears, except for my screensaver.

I ran adaware or something like that, and that didn't work, and I have run a few other spyware programs, to no avail.

At the bottom right corner, it says that I have 'spyware renos,' and windows takes me to some page where I am suppose to perform a scan, but does not allow me to perform it because it supposedly does not work on vista.

ANY idea what I should ? It's putting me on life tilt.

Thanks.

That warning message you got is the actual Renos program directing you to a website to "remove" the program that was installed on your computer. Do not go to the website. It is a scam.

Renos explained here.

Do you have an Anti-virus program? Run it. If your AV doesn't find it, get AVG.

This may be common knowledge, but I always say it: start in Safe Mode before running your anti-virus scans.

I didn't know that about running the comp. under safe mode. I did an avg scan, but nothing came up.

Finally, I did a windows scan(which I tried doing earlier, but I realized I needed IE, not FF), which took 2 hours, but did the job.

Thanks !
