Default A hand from WSOP PL holdem $1500 event

This hand is from my 3rd table about 3 or 4 hours into the event. I am maybe 7 or 8 hands into the table, and the UTG player is a young, foreign player who if i was forced to guess, might play online poker, but i truly know almost nothing.
My stack: 9kish
His: 5kish
Blinds 100/200, no ante.

Its hard to get peoples exact stacks at live, so i am constantly leaning over the table, counting their stacks or asking them "approx how much you got?" which messes with peoples heads a bit.

I hold JJ in the SB, bear in mind live plays a bit tighter. This is pot limit. 10 handed.

Preflop: UTG raises to 550, folds to MP2 who calls, folds to hero in SB, hero?

I normally don't do it piece but i think this one is worth considering so i will just this once.

How deep is MP2?

It all depends on how you think he will play
If he will fold AK to a reraise, I am reraising or if he will call a reraise with 88 I am reraising.

It seems that so many of these situations just leave you in a spot where people play essentially perfectly, so I generally just call.

The lack of antes + 10 handed tables etc make this seem like its definitely just a call.

I probably just call. Obviously if it was like UTG plus 2 raising then I would probably raise. But if you reraise here I think your range gets to be pretty narrow,TT plus AQ plus etc., not to mention if we get reraised I puke. So in odda words, agree with timex.

I'm thinking call too. He's opened for < pot UTG 10-handed, it sounds big to me, and there's a caller which helps your implied odds a lot. I'd be calling and looking to flop a set or maybe T98 or something like that.

I'd probably call PF.

Sorry, MP2 i think was like 6ish K. Its hard to get truly accurate counts live.

I elected to call, the BB folded.

Flop: 9 9 8 rainbow. (Pot 1850)
Hero?

if you reraise pot up say 9x bb and he has approximately 25x bb. Giving him perfect stacks to move in on you. Also if you reraise will you get better hands to fold and worse hands to call.... probably not.

Maybe I'm a wuss but check and see what they do. I like to stick to my pre-flop plan in these situations until I gather more info, and my plan was that I was playing for a set or a pair+draw board.

I don't favour betting "for information". Checking (twice if necessary) will give you plenty of information for free.

If you had to ask me real quick I'd check. I think it's quite reasonable that overcards will take a shot at it here.

curtains,

the trouble with checking and with overcards taking a shot here is that UTG will likely bet with either his big pair or AK/AQ type hands. Much as I think betting for information sucks, I think we kinda have to bet for information.
