Playing above your BR...fess up guys
We all at one time or another have played above our BR but how often do you guys do it? Or, how many of you don't even play with the right BR in the first place? Just wondering if anyone has gone broke doing this.

It's just a matter of how risk averse you are.

Re: Playing above your BR...fess up guys
i havent risked much, then i felt daring and sat with $100 on 3/6.... I lost it in 30 hands.
I won't be doing that for a while... Well give it two weeks. Was actually quite theraputic(sp)... but losing that at lower stakes would of put me on tilt. |

Re: Playing above your BR...fess up guys
There is no rule, there is only what people suggest. I play 15/30 with 10K max right now. I have never gone broke, and only once in the last year has money ever made the transit from my neteller acct back into a poker site. Most recommend at least 300, if not 500BB, but I think thats for the feint of heart who can't handle losing 50 or 100BB in a session or couple days.

Re: Playing above your BR...fess up guys
If I have been running hot and I have a lot of confidence I play one table of a bigger game. I have been on fire for the past couple weeks and I have been playing in some games that are WAAAY above where I should be playing. Its a recipe for disaster though. If you want to take a shot, make sure its a calculated shot. Dont just say, f-it I am going to play 5-10 today, make sure you have a stop loss that you can confortably handle from both a emotional and financial point of view.

If anything, I'm overbankrolled, since I'm a pussy about moving up. But I plan on using PokerTracker and to start seriously thinking about moving up. |

Everyone's risk tolerance is different. Obviously if you have a day job or easily liquifiable assets or something, your effective BR is higher. Here's a nice thread where I get told I'm going to go broke and have to eat my own poop.

Re: Playing above your BR...fess up guys
I ran hot at 5/10 full other weekend...hopped onto 10/20 6max...turned into a luckbox for few hours...got drunk and joined a 25/50 6 max...hope someone appreciated my $$.
FWIW it never impacted my bankroll so I dont feel too bad about it, but I did feel like a Big Mac in Bangladesh at that table. |

Re: Playing above your BR...fess up guys
I play slightly above my bankroll every day. I play 3 tables of my usual 6max game, and then one step higher in a full game. It's been going well so far this year but I don't have many hands yet.
I can not go broke playing above my BR because when I take shots I have a stop loss at my higher limit. |
