am I allowed to pursue this girl?

Here are the facts:

1) Next year I will be living with 2 guys, Jack and John. I went to high school with both of them. Jack and I have always been semi-friends, mostly due to lots of mutual friends. We get along but aren't super close (I am hoping we will become closer next year). John and I are very good friends.
2) Freshman year, Jack met a girl named Amy, since then they have become good friends. They have no romantic history and as far as I know she has never been interested in him.
3) About 2 months ago I saw Amy for first time in a few years. Later that night I mentioned to Jack and John that I was considering asking her out, but it was nothing big.
4) 2 weeks ago John and I are talking and Amy comes up. He mentions that Jack now likes Amy, though when I first mentioned I was thinking about asking her out he did not.
5) Jack has not told me that he likes her.
6) Jack is not the sort of guy to ever do anything about it. I, on the other hand, would.

Basically I'm thinking its ok for me to go after her since he has never mentioned to me that he has any feelings for her. He knows her much much better than I and if he told me he was gonna ask her out I would instantly back off and be totally cool with that, but since he hasn't, do I have any obligation here?

it will make ur life uncomfortable in some way if you do, whether subtle or glaring its gonna affect some part of ur relationship with him if you do end up banging her because he will feel slighted by his friend, i'd suggest just finding a different girl

but really, what grounds does Jack have to be pissed at me? if we are good enough friends that I shouldn't be going for girls he likes, shouldn't that mean we are close enough that he tells me who he likes?

You're still friends, super-uber good friends or not. You're going to be living with the dude. You know he has been pretty good friends with her for a long time. You'd have to be a bit naive not to think that if he is really, really good friends with her, he probably likes her but is just a pussy about making a move.

I dunno. I wouldn't do anything about it if I was the sort of friend you are with him, which is still an alright guy. Do remember though, you're gonna be living with him. The right thing to do here, is talk to Jack about it. The outcome from that - who knows.

Edit: this would be different if you lived with Jack but he was a huge douche and you can't wait till you or him moves out. He is your friend. Talk to him.
