Default New to MTT\'s

I have been playing poker for about 2 years, mainly cash games. I have decided to start playing tournys. I have been playing a few MTT's (various buy-ins) and I always seem to get knocked out right before the money. Is it because I am playing to tight or is it something else? Mind you most the tournys have been min 300 people to start.

If you haven't read Harrington on Hold'em Vol.I,II and done the workbook, Vol.III, please do so. You will answer your own question.
