Critique my workout tips
Over the years, I tried to build some muscles several times, and when I was working out, I heard/learned/listened to different tips about working out in general. Probably some of them are pretty obvious, and some of them are just wrong.
Any comments, welcome. Also, if you have more, please add. In random order... 1. It's better to work out in the morning than at night. 2. It's better to work out 5 days/week than every single day. 3. Drink a lot of water while exercising. 4. To build some muscle, it's better to do both heavy lifting AND cardiovascular exercise. 5. Even if you just want your upper body to look good, by building muscle to your legs, you get faster result with your upper body. 6. First, you need to gain weight, or have to have extra weight in order to turn the extra into muscle. 7. When you lift, lift slow. 8. When you lift, don't lift all the way but stop right before it gets to the top. 9. Regular push ups and sit ups are pretty ineffective way to build muscle. 10. If your muscle doesn't hurt the next day, you aren't working hard enough. 11. Instead of doing different types of exercise every day, work on the same part of your body extensively for weeks(?), and then move on to the other part of your body. |

Can't see why this would matter...perhaps you can explain 2. Its better to not lift every single day. If you're in peak shape, theres no problem with some cardio every day imo. 3. agreed 4. Its better for overall health. Just regarding building muscle, I've actually heard that doing cardio right after lifting will hurt your gains because you're not giving yourself recovery time. 5. Agreed, and you should want a good lower body too. 6. Don't really understand what you're saying 7. Kinda....lift fast on the first movement, slight pause at the stop point, then return the weight back slowly 8. Never heard of this 9. You're not going to get bulky doing these, but they certainly aren't bad exercises 10. I'd say true 11. Never heard of that |

8. When you lift, don't lift all the way but stop right before it gets to the top. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] 8. Never heard of this [/ QUOTE ] This is true. In any exercise you shouldn't be locking out your joints. You will hear people say that you only get the full effect of the lift by doing it to lock out but it is plain wrong and bad for you. Lifting to near the full extension but just short is far better for you. |

[ QUOTE ] pretty much all these are at least somewhat wrong... [/ QUOTE ] Well, I guess that's why I posted this. [/ QUOTE ] Then the title should have been "evaluate these statements about lifting" not "critique MY workout tips"... By doing that no one would think they were YOUR ideas and YOUR tips. |
