Reaction poll i guess
A loose pf player open on the button and you just call in the BB with A7o.
Flop is K52 You check, he bets, you call. Turn is a Q. Check, Check. River J. Check, Check. You win at showdown. The next time a similar situation comes up vs. this player you would be... |

Re: Reaction poll i guess
I don't understand. You never put in a bet; in a similar situation in the future, he will neither have the chance to call down light nor fold a marginal holding.

Re: Reaction poll i guess
Assuming he bets the river? I'm not calling A7 before, so I'm certainly not calling it now. I might fold a pair less than a J in such a tiny pot though. (So the second answer to your poll.)

Re: Reaction poll i guess
What you have to figure out is his ratio of value betting to his ratio of bluffing. This hand would seem to suggest that he's not someone to barrel through with a bluff, and that's an argument for not calling down light going forward. OTOH oftentimes these guys are also poor value-bettors and when they choose to bluff it can be at weird times. So basically I'm going to play fairly zero-level against this guy and not make a lot of hero calldowns with ace high but also not make any hero folds if something happens like he check-raises me on the river in a big pot. I am going to float a lot of flops/turns, though.
BTW, it kinda matters whether the hand he had at showdown was A4o or 87o. |

Re: Reaction poll i guess
Why would anyone ever be more likely to call light? While a sample size of 1 isn't anything to hang your hat on, it is something. At most, we should be calling the same amount as we would have previously until we have more evidence of his playing style, but calling down less is certainly something to consider in a borderline situation. Calling down more doesn't make any sense to me.

Re: Reaction poll i guess
I'm confused, do you mean our play out of the blind preflop, or postflop? I am more likely to call lighter out of the blinds preflop, and more likely to fold marginal holdings to aggression postflop.

Re: Reaction poll i guess
I mean postflop.
This river goes check-check. Does this guy now think "i should have bet" or does he think "that sucks..." which is more often Like say someone caps a flush draw on the flop and the miss. The next time they might be a bit more inclined to play their draws a bit more passive. I'm not talking about 2p2ers here i'm talking about "the fish" i guess. |

Re: Reaction poll i guess
oops. I totally misread OP. I thought you were asking what I would do against this player given his passive postflop play.
I have no idea. |
