I\'ve forgotten the basics (play along hand)
Villain is 30/20 in a small sample. I don't think he is a very strong player, doesn't think much past his own cards. He steals the blinds 40% of the time.
2/4 Effective stacks $730. He opens to $16 from button, sb folds, you are in bb with ATo and do what and why? |

Re: I\'ve forgotten the basics (play along hand)
Depends on his likelihood of calling a 3-bet. With this hand i lean towards not 3-betting as it is really marginal OOP in a raised pot when you get called.
If hes always raising in this spot and you need to make a point or you have read that he folds to 3-bet a large percent of time, then repop to ~55 and lead any flop for ~75, obvs shut down if you whiff and get called. this auto bet on the flop, IMO, is due to the super high frequency of a fold by villain in that spot. |

Re: I\'ve forgotten the basics (play along hand)
Since he doesn't think past his own cards this is a pretty easy 3bet to ~50?

Re: I\'ve forgotten the basics (play along hand)
Fold. I want to 3-bet hands that will play well against his calling range. ATo is one of the worse hands against his calling range because he will call us with hands that dominate us.
So, I'd rather 3-bet: -Premium hands (TT+, AJs+, AQo) -Suited connectors -Unsuited connectors like 98/87/76 -Suited gappers like 75s-T8s -Pairs I'd probably call with hands like QJs/KQs/JTs/KJs |

Re: I\'ve forgotten the basics (play along hand)
I don't have a good grasp on his frequency for calling a 3bet because of small sample.
My best guess is I expect he folds most aces I dominate(though I could be wrong, he might call with all aces). I expect him to call with all pocket pairs and all speculative hands that have ok equity vs me if I have a premium hand. I also expect him to peel the flop light. So I really don't like 3-betting, but maybe I'm wrong. |

Re: I\'ve forgotten the basics (play along hand)
His steal percentage is actually not that high, if that is from the button, this is pretty much auto fold for a villain like this, with this hand.
To easy to get into bad spots OOP with a mid A. |
