After watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_l9rjWylxY an imprtant question came to mind:
Say you were the victim. When the big black guy gets up close in your face, could you legally beat the [censored] out of him (if you could) without getting in trouble? Hopefully someone in the field of law enforcement could give their take on this issue. |

I think before you assess the legality you should probably look at the probability of you actually being able to beat the [censored] out of him.

[/ QUOTE ] Say for the sake of discussion that you could beat up the person in your face. That guy had no way to stop that attack if the law says you can't get someone out of your face. He might've been able to make the first move and who knows, land a lucky punch. |

I think the more interesting question is,
at what point do you as a bystander try to stop the enormously large pissed off guy from pummeling the [censored] out of a unconscious helpless person |

But I'm 5-9 and a buck fifty so I'm not sure if I would have had the balls to step up. |

I found this as a linked video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMIuG3HvV0Y It's a news story that explains the situation. =========== Quick and dirty if you don't want to watch it : Police arrived right after dude left the shop and arrested him on simple assault. After viewing the video, DA cahrged him with a felony and he got 4 years in jail. The woman got 2 years probation. They said the guy complained about the women cutting in line at the pizza shop and that's what set her off. |

Here though, the guy sucker punched him and then continued with haymakers. I'm not sure what I'd do in real life, but I'd like to think that if it continued I'd pick up the nearest chair and hit the guy as hard as I could. People in groups tend to sit back waiting for someone else to act, but once someone breaks the spell, I think others would join in as well. No matter how much I'd want to, bashing that woman in the face is probably out of the question. |

He was talking on a cell phone while in line, I'd probably get a couple kicks in while he was down.
