$100 NLTRN - valuebetting with two pairs on scary river
This is a first hand of a tournament. The opponent is slightly winning player at $100s+. I have never before played him so no reads. Opponent checks quickly on river. Would you value bet this? If you would how much would you bet? Would you fold if the opponent happens to check/raise?

Re: $100 NLTRN - valuebetting with two pairs on scary river
I bet 250-300 and fold to a raise. I hate these situations where you check and you see a worse hand he would have called.
I think he's got a worse calling hand much more often than he's going for a check-raise with the flush. Personally I only rarely come across people who check raise the river. The fear of it being checked through normally makes people bet a big hand oop. |

Re: $100 NLTRN - valuebetting with two pairs on scary river
A winning 100+ player will probably be able to c/r a river.
This is an ugly little spot and on the first hand I probably check behind. It's tough to put him on a big range that we beat and he calls with considering the line. Checking may also misinform him that we are afraid to play in pots with scare cards and he may bet a little more often/too much in future pots with draw heavy boards. |

Re: $100 NLTRN - valuebetting with two pairs on scary river
I think ANY player can check-raise this river and will do it a lot given that a bet would interrupt the weak-passive vibe with which he played the prior streets. Seems like there are few hands with any showdown value that he can have here period, not to mention him also folding a good % of them to the 3rd barrel. Pretty much all aces here are beat 2pair or hit the flush. And its 1st hand, where people tend to call much less(at least vs. me) than later b.c. no aggro image has been established yet.
Thus its one of the few times I would advise missing a valuebet. |

If its the first hand, i would probably check, just so i could see what he's calling with, i find that information alot more important, that might be able to help in the remaning hands
