Default an idiot tries to cash check

So i walk into my local HSBC branch to cash a poker check and in front of me this guy is wearing all his full tilt gear. Jacket, hat, the works. Goes to cash his check and the lady brings the check to the manager and the next thing i know he is taken off the line and is talking at the managers table. Not sure if the check he had was from gambling or there was another reason. but why would you wear that to a bank especially if you are cashing a check. Just DUMB!!

Yep, it shouldn't matter.

(1) The UIGEA doesn't cover withdrawing money from online gambling sites.
(2) The UIGEA specifically makes an exception of paper checks.

But then again, there is no legal reason Neteller or ParyPoker can't operate in the US either, so the law has very little impact in this day and age of Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt from all sides.

Probably some over-zealous bank teller freaking out for no reason.

Default This mythical exemption of paper checks in the UIGE Act is NONSENSE.

"(2) The UIGEA specifically makes an exception of paper checks."

I agree that the UIGEA does not apply to cashouts.

However, where is this mythical exemption of paper checks under the Act ? I have never seen it, express or otherwise.

The UIGEA in fact says EXPRESSLY the opposite, as to deposits, in Section 5363(3). It applies to:

"(3) any check, draft or similar instrument ... "

If there is some contrary language, PLEASE point it out. Otherwise, STOP spreading this myth of an exemption of paper checks .... for depsoits.

I just wanted to post to eat crow in public rather than private. I have no contrary language, and I'm also sure Milton is more knowledgeable about UIGEA than me. I suppose I had fallen prey to the myth.

Even if I was only half right, it still means the bank is acting with "irrational exuberance" by not taking these checks.

Thanks for the good info Milton.

Almost all of your posts are FTP checks related. Its a little weird that you would happen into a bank at the exact same time someone is cashing a poker check and by chance he is decked out in FTP attire and by chance his checks cause a stir. Something smells fishy about this post.
