Default Theory- 3-betting is bad!

For a long time I thought about not sharing this information. Against the wishes of some of my closest poker confidants, I've decided to release valuable information that may revolutionize the poker community.

I've come to the conclusion that 3-betting is bad in short handed Unlimited Texas Hold Them. Contrary to popular opinion that 3-betting is good to get an aggressive image and put more money in the pot, it is actually bad! 3-betting was the new "fad" in poker just a few months ago, when people thought it was "good," but now that I've employed my super secret strategy of never 3-betting, I know that my results are better and therefore 3-betting is "bad." I do have some proof to back this up. If you look at the following chart, it is evidence that without 3-betting, you will automatically succeed in poker! These are my results from the past one week:

As evident from these results, not 3-betting is the new 3-betting! The quicker that you all pick this up and cease 3-betting, the sooner we'll all be filthy rich!

In case you don't believe me, I will show you the crazy, negative side effects of 3-betting. Here's what happens when you 3-bet me :

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $10 BB (5 handed) Hand History converter Courtesy of PokerZion.com

Button ($2212.50)
SB ($2030.25)
BB ($434.50)
UTG ($2529.05)
Hero ($838)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
<font color="#CC3333">UTG raises to $30</font>, Hero calls $30, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises to $130</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, UTG calls $100, Hero calls $100.

Flop: ($405) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
UTG checks, Hero checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($405) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
UTG checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $280</font>, Button calls $280, UTG folds.

River: ($965) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $428 (All-In)</font>, Button calls $428.

Final Pot: $1821

Results in white below: <font color="#FFFFFF">
Hero has 6s 7s (straight, seven high).
Button has Ts As (one pair, aces).
Outcome: Hero wins $1821. </font>

Top pair third kicker?! That's what you get for squeezing, you end up overplaying top pair no kicker! Some good poker players call this "kicker trouble." I always stay out of kicker trouble by calling preflop 3-bets with low cards, like a six and a seven, or a five and a seven!

Hero ($1476.10)
SB ($1950.50)
BB ($571)
UTG ($1909)
MP ($329)
CO ($4012.10)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">CO raises to $40</font>, Hero calls $40, <font color="#CC3333">SB raises to $160</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, CO calls $120, Hero calls $120.

Flop: ($490) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
SB checks, <font color="#CC3333">CO bets $300</font>, Hero calls $300, SB folds.

Turn: ($1090) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">CO bets $3552.1 (All-In)</font>, Hero calls $1016.10 (All-In).

River: ($5658.20) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players, 2 all-in)</font>

Final Pot: $5658.20

Results in white below: <font color="#FFFFFF">
CO has Qc Qh (one pair, queens).
Hero has 5c 7c (flush, ten high).
Outcome: Hero wins $3122.20. CO wins $2536. </font>

These guys are always overplaying their one pair hands! (something good players never do )

However, I should show you the positive aspects of 3-betting... <u>just kidding</u>! Absolutely nothing positive can come from 3-betting!

seems pretty bad in a 3-way reraised pot when you called twice preflop, unless it leaves you at LEAST a PSB on the river, if not more, to valueshove when you get there. it might work better if both villains are pussies, but that A hit their ranges a lot harder than yours.

you're right though, 3-betting does suck.
