Default Linksys wireless router problem

I am having trouble with my wireless linksys wrt54gsv2 router ( I tried updating my firmwire)
I have a cable modem (RCN).
When I plug my computers directly into the modem they work. Both plugging the computers into the router directly and wirelessly the router I don’t get internet.

What it shows when I type ipconfig.exe:
Ip address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

What is says for ping 192.168.1.1
Packets sent 4 receieved 4 lost 0
Approx round trip, maximum 3ms avg 1ms

What it says when I type ping 4.2.2.1 –t
Pinging 4.2.2.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

When I try to ping google
Ping request could not find host ww.google.com please check the name and try again.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

sounds like you go cablemodem>router>computers
and
your router is not syncing up with your cable modem. If you have dslmodem I know what is wrong.

go into router and see what it says for wan(cablemodem) and lan(computers)

well you're off for the day i guess but if you want try this

change the default gateway address on your router from
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
to
192.168.2.1

because depending on your configuration your cable modem might have the 192.168.1.1 address already.

Why would you want to do both wired and wireless at the same time?

Does your ISP support DHCP? You might try plugging one of your computers into the modem and get it's IP address then use that as a static IP address on the router. I don't remember there being a lot of instructions after setting DHCP on.
