Default Bluff, bad or good?

Villian is running at 17/12/3 over 240 hands. He seems to be a decent player, but I don't remember playing any big pots with him.
I think villian in this hand would have bet the flop if he had hit something. So when he checks the flop, then bets the turn I think he is just trying to steal it so i raised and thought I would take it down there. When he called I thought he probably had a pocket pair smaller thans kings, and just thought I was trying to steal. Therefore I figured If I made a nice river bet he would fold. I just wanna know if you guys think this play if profitable inthe long run. thanks. Also at this table I was running at 12/9/3.5, so my image was very tight.
