Default Buying a new Comp. Today

I'm going in to buy a new computer today.
I'm looking for a laptop and all I'll really use it for is poker and basic stuff.
What are the best kinds I could get? I know nothing about computers.

Do some searches on this forum or just scroll down through the last 20 pages of posts. This has been hashed out over and over. Dell seems to be the most popular/cheapest/best option for most poker players.

This week Dell's deals on laptops aren't that great but if you'll keep your eye out over the next couple weeks I'm sure you'll find some good deals.

Im just bitter that my friend spent $2300 on a dell that I could have built for him for half the price. Laptops are different...

Concerns:
You cant just decide one day to buy a computer, you have to research a bit and price watch (unless your rich, just go buy it). Dell laptops are solid, so if you can afford anything, just go dell. But if you would like to get something that will suit your needs and not pay for things you dont need, here are some pointers.

If your just doing poker, word processing, and internet stuff, you prolly dont need a huge hard disk. High RAM is always nice b/c then you can run 10 poker rooms all at once or a lot of other things. Video card is your last worry, make sure your not buying some super expensive laptop with a kick ass card that your never going to use.

Summary:
IF you buy a dell, get an inspiron NOT an XPS. The type of inspiron is up to you, but basically, the bigger the monitor, the more it costs.

So:
Check www.dell.com prices against at least 2 websites (ebay, newegg, frys) that sell laptops and 2 stores in your local area. I would do this over a week at least if not a month. Then, buy the best deal you like.

And it sucks that you have to get vista...
