moving up stakes
So far over 30k hands at 50nl im winning 3.2BB/100 hands, i want to move up to 100nl but absolutely cannot afford to go broke as poker is my only form of income this summer. i have a bankroll of about 1700. is it possible im just running hot at 50nl? is 30k hands a big enough sample? is my bankroll big enough to move up? I'm used to 12 tabling but i figure i'll probably only 8 table if i move up, at least for a while. all criticisms and suggestions are welcome

Re: moving up stakes
2000 is generally the minimum to play 100nl. If poker is your only income you should have 30-40+ buyins tho, and move down at the first sign of any downswing.
You should definitely stay at 50nl for a bit longer, your winrate isn't great, and you're underrolled for 100nl. and 30k hands is nothing. |

Re: moving up stakes
you might not even be able to beat 100nl if your only winning at 3.2 in 50nl. just keep 12 tabling that until you have at least 4grand and 100k hand sample size.
do it right the first time and you wont have to do it again later |

Re: moving up stakes
you are going to want 3k or so to feel comfortable i bet, 3bb/100 isnt stellar either, but wr over 30k hands is close to meaningless. cut back some tables and play another 20-30k.

Re: moving up stakes
cut down tables and see if your true winrate improves. 3.2/100 is nowhere near enough to move up without an adequate bankroll. If you find 100NL any tougher (and you should) then your winrate will decrease at the beginning, and being so low as it is that could be disastrous.

Re: moving up stakes
Don't mean to hijack the thread so I'll stay on topic..
What sample size should we be looking at to be meaningful and whats the ideal bb/100 wr or atleast the minimum wr we should be looking for? jvans - I recently moved up from 50-100nl with a 2k BR. I think it is possible to do but you really notice the big bad beats which cripple you a lot more and you may be required to move back down a few times when the cards don't cooperate. I'd say 2.5-3k is a more ideal number, just coming from my personal experience. |

Re: moving up stakes
playing for a living with 17 BI is suicide
I'd play 100k more hands and see what happens. Do not 12-table grind only but also play a few sessions with like 4 tables and try to play perfectly to improve your game. |
