Default 71\" Samsung 1080P, XBOX360 HD DVD player??

Ok so we have 71" Samsung 1080P, XBOX360 HD DVD player with the regular XBOX360. When we watch HDDVD movies are we actually watching 1080p or 1080i? If 1080i, what do we need to get for 1080p?

Sorry if in the wrong forum

I think it depends on the input you are using. What input are you using? Also, go to settings and see what output is selected.

Im pretty sure there is no HDMI output on either the xbox or HDdvd player so we are using component. Which, I heard can only support 1080i.

Yeah, I believe you have to use VGA on the HD-DVD player... but don't quote me.

1080p is only possible over VGA on the original Xbox 360.

1080p is possible through component/analog. Copyright protection schemes are the only reason that you can't use component for 1080p HD-DVD/blue-ray playback / DVD upscaling. The signal is unprotected. Component could very well end up giving better quality playback than VGA as well - don't you love businesses screwing over customers for the sake of their profits. Rant aside, you CAN play games in 1080p using component - although it's going to be unscaled. Native 1080p resolution will not be a standard part of this generation of consoles - too slow.

Also, for some more fun - do some research on your own TV. Many 1080p televisions, and virtually all of them older than a year, cannot actually accept 1080p sources. Their 1080p display is exclusively from upscaling. Check the signal compatability in your manual, or this is all just an academic exercise to begin with.
