47\" toshiba, etc
Okay, so I've been exploring all week, and have narrowed it down a bit. I'm thinking I will just go with the dell e1705 w/ 2 of the 24" monitors (1900 x 1200 res). still unsure whether i can fit 6 tables on each of these, or if there is any reason to seriously consider a desktop instead (significantly faster, etc), but think that this setup should be fine.
a friend took me to a small comp store this morning (knows someone there), and seemed to think he could get me a cheaper deal than simply buying online. is this realistic? also, he showed me a 47" toshiba for $1500- looked really nice, but the resolution was a bit low (but someone on stox's site said the res doesnt really matter, and that you can get around this somehow- true?). also, he showed me a 27" and 32", both for under $500 apiece (however, these were refurbished - would it be a bad move to consider these?). so basically, i will tell him what dell equipment i want, and he will give me a quote. any reason to not do this, even if he quotes a significantly lower price than those online? last two questions (sorry if it is in the faq, cant remember even though ive read it several times): 1) what video card do i need for the 1705 and 24" monitors?; 2) if all i want is a speedy poker system, is it worth upgrading to 2gb of ram? thanks |

1) what video card do i need for the 1705 and 24" monitors?; [/ QUOTE ] The overwhelming majority of video cards with a DVI plug should be fine for these. Make sure you have one plug in your video card for each monitor. [ QUOTE ] if all i want is a speedy poker system, is it worth upgrading to 2gb of ram? [/ QUOTE ] Depends on your system, and where the bottleneck is. If you're running PT, PAHUD, MTH, 10 tables, etc, it is more likely that any bottleneck will be in your processor/hard disk. These are more common "holdups" in poker systems. [ QUOTE ] a friend took me to a small comp store this morning (knows someone there), and seemed to think he could get me a cheaper deal than simply buying online. is this realistic? [/ QUOTE ] I would be awfully surprised. [ QUOTE ] also, he showed me a 27" and 32", both for under $500 apiece (however, these were refurbished - would it be a bad move to consider these?). [/ QUOTE ] Depends what you'll be displaying on the screens. These options are bad for poker. These options are good for TV etc. Poker requires very high resolutions, especially for multitabling. TV generally does not - even a normal DVD is only 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x586 (PAL). One standard poker table, at full size, is 800 x 600. Think about that. |
