Question re: Canadian going to Atlantic City to play ring games.
Hey, I live in Ontario, Canada and I am planning on going to AC for a week or so to play cash games. Does anyone know (a) if i am going to be subject to that 30% tax that I hear about playing smaller limit cash games, and (b) does anyone know if casinos provide cheap rooms to poker players and any casino recommendations? I appreciate it.

Re: Question re: Canadian going to Atlantic City to play ring games.
No Tax.
No cheap room rates unless you have prior established play. Never hurts to ask the floor for a discounted room after a long session, however. The Borgata, the Taj, and the Tropicana all will have the games you are looking for. |

I have no idea what tax you are talking about.
I believe you can get a poker rate room at the Hilton for $30 (plus tax) Sun-Thurs with no prior play, but this is highly subject to availability, and hard to get more than a couple days in advance. Everywhere else I think you need to have prior play AFAIK. |

Thanks for the response. So my best bet is to find a cheap place away from the Borgata (where I was planning on playing) and just cab it back and forth, you would say?

Re: Question re: Canadian going to Atlantic City to play ring games.
If you stay at a hotel within a block or two of the boardwalk, it would be much easier and cheaper to just play at the Taj or Tropicana and walk to the games. If you really want to play at the Borgata and not stay there, I guess you will have to cab it though.

Try booking a poker rate through the Taj Majal. I was there a couple months ago and was able to secure it without any prior play.

[/ QUOTE ] The Jitney (a small private bus service) will take you to any casino for $2, and stops at basically every block on the boardwalk. It is very convenient if you only want to travel up and down the boardwalk...not as convenient from boardwalk to Borgata, but still cheap and reliable. If you are planning to stay in Absecon or another nearby city, you should probably get a car. The time I tried to cab it from Absecon to Borgata, it was $35 each way. |
