Preflop strategy in loose/aggressive game
Playing some 2/3NL at Crown Casino, Melbourne... I was on a particular table were there was a preflop raise around 45 percent of the hands and sometimes people even limped and reraised with hands like J5s which i still dont understand. Anyway there was around 37-47% to see every flop and most flops were bet. I was just wondering which hands in which positions are playable in a game like this. Even if i limped with hands like KJs on the button a raise of 4xBB from the BB would knock me out which tighten up my game. Everyone recognised i was playing like a rock which wasnt good for my game.... Any thoughts?... Thanks

Re: Preflop strategy in loose/aggressive game
Were the stacks really deep?
You have to realize that in such a game, everyone doesn't have a hand every time and they're raising with a wider range than you'd expect. You'll need to be willing to re-raise PF when you have premium hands probably down to middle pairs, preferably in position, to charge opponents for their wide range. Be extremely careful about giving free cards - if checked to you on the flop and you raised or re-raised PF, you probably need to make a convincing cbet 90% of the time here. Call reasonable PF raises from position with good draws like A-x suited and hope the out of position doofus with J-x suited hits your flush. Play position, widen your own raise/re-raise range a bit, profit! If the stacks aren't very deep then shoot man I don't know - don't play there? |

Re: Preflop strategy in loose/aggressive game
Start raising some of the hands you would normally limp so that you can head off the raising and take control of it at the same time.

Re: Preflop strategy in loose/aggressive game
1. Have a deeper than normal bankroll. You will have to gamble more, so have a deep enough rolls to go busto a couple of times without sweating it.
2. Reraise preflop with position more often with a wider range of hands. 3. If the pot ends up as big as your stack by the time you see the flop, then push TPTK or better and your premium draws. 4. Call on the button in multiway raised pots with most playable hands that you might ordinarily fold. Villain's are making big posts with modest holdings, so your position will give you a great chance to flop or turn something good and unexpected with which to win (or steal) a good pot. So if you have KJs on the button and choose to over limp, then CALL if it's raised from the blinds and take a flop. 5. Open up your own preflop raising range to include suited connectors and mid pairs. You can always fold if you get reraised from behind for an amount that gives you poor implied odds for playing oop post flop. You DON'T want all the action to dry up every time you (and only you) enter the pot. Once you show down some aggressively played draw or speculative preflop hand, then you can tighten up some if you want without them noticing since all they remember is "He raised with that?!" |
