Default Hypothetical hand

Here is a small Poker "problem".

Online hand at for example Party Poker.

Stacks:
SB: $50
Hero: $50

0.5/1 NL (6-max), 6 players

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
4 folds, SB calls, Hero checks

Flop: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($2, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

Turn: A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($2, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

River: J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($2, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero..

Lets say you only have two options here:

1. Check
2. Push

What should you do versus:

1. A hobby player that doesn't know much about EV and such but can read the board properly.

2. A good player aware of EV.

I would always push here for that 0.034% fold equity.

Here is a more interesting situation:

Stacks:
SB: $50
Hero: $50

0.5/1 NL (6-max), 6 players

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
4 folds, SB calls, Hero checks

Flop: T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($2, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($2, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

River: K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($2, 2 players)
SB moves all-in, Hero..???

Compensated for rake?

I had PokerStove put the Villain on a random hand. It gave me 44% equity in the pot, meaning I should fold.

You both play the board with a straight and chop the pot.

What did I not see?

Unless I missed something almost nobody will fold in this spot, the only person that makes money in this hand is the rake.

The rake is a factor and Meta game not considered.

Rake is obviously a key factor here, you should have posted what Party charges. Assuming a rake of $3 for the $100 pot, and that there is no rake on uncalled bets, Player 2 would fold because he knows he would be losing money (putting in $49 to get half of the resulting $97 pot, or $48.50). He might call out of spite, however, thinking that 50 cents is a fair price to punish you for trying to screw him. Against Player 1, who will not run the EV calculations and will call, you should check. If you push and he folds, your equity increases by $1. If he calls, your equity is reduced by $1.5. He would have to accidentally fold more than 60% of the time to make a push profitable.
