Default Canadian Roadtrip

Me and my friends are from Denver Colorada and roadtripping to Canada late July. What is the shortest route to a big tournament we could play? Any personal experience with this? Thanks in advance,

IJ

I assume you want it to coorespond with poker rooms, but not sure where any big tournaments would be taking place. I'd say head on up to Calgary, they have a pretty good poker scene, and its just a short 2-3 hour drive from Edmonton. Or you can go west from there to Vancouver where there are some pretty big casinos, like River Rock, Canadas largest poker room.

Vancouver has the best rooms in the country. THIS LINK will have some good info. River Rock and Edgewater are the places to be.

If you want big tournaments in late July, Casino Regina (Saskatchewan) is the place to go. They have an 8-table room for cash games with 1/2 & 2/4 NL + 10/20 & 20/40 limit (IIRC)

Texas Hold’em No Limit Freeze Out

Other posters mentioned Calgary and Edmonton...both good choices.

Two links for Calgary:

When you get here, don't freak out about the gas prices though.

Calgary indeed has a lively scene. If you want to play 1/2 NL, I would recommend Deerfoot Inn & Casino - usually they have 3-4 tables going, as well as 5-5 PLO with a $1,000 max buy-in. The Cash Casino runs 1-2 as well, plus small tournaments, but it's dingy and the staff is unfriendly, unless you are one of their white trash regulars.

Elbow river casino in Calgary also has limit games from 4/8 - 30/60 and occasionally a $50/100 game. They also have a $10/25 PLO game that plays more like $25/50 that goes mostly on the weekends. I also heard they have had some 5/10nl games going lately too.
