Am I a Jerk or is this a fair move?
out of position one player ahead of me. i am about to raise on the turn have half pot size chips (considerable amount) in my hand cross the line in the air and have not yet put my chips down. mind you im not trying to get a reaction, moving slowly, or not purposefully trying to angle this play at all. player in position says all in and tosses chips pat the line on the table. it was the quickest move ive ever seen by anyone. so without touching the felt i took my chips back and mucked my hand.

[/ QUOTE ] No, it's not a jerk move. Not your fault if the other player acted before you. Unless there is a rule where you play that any chips over the betting line is an enforced bet then you have every right to take it back after his action. |

So basically, you accidentally half acted out of turn?

Beware that in some rooms that's a bet by rule.

This should be dead money. It is a bet once chips cross the line.

I would have dropped one chip (your action)... then folded.

I think he's saying that he was SECOND to act, had picked up chips and moved them forward to make a bet before the player in front of him had done anything and then pulled them back when that player went all in. Is that right? People in my limit games do that all the time to try to show the first to act player that they are going to call so that player should re-think if he really wants to bet. Usually this is a gigantic tell and the first player can safely bet. As I said, if this is a *jerk move* he's got plenty of company and I've never seen the acting out of turn player be made to put in chips if the first to act hasn't done anything yet. |

This should be dead money. It is a bet once chips cross the line. [/ QUOTE ] I love people who make these kind of conclusions without knowing what the house rules are. Betting lines mean different things (or nothing at all) in different places. Generally, there is nothing wrong with this move. Actual mileage may vary. |
