$1000 to not gamble an entire weekend in Vegas
A little back ground here. My buddy is probably the biggest "action" guy I know. We've been betting on elevators since we were old enough to talk. We were playing poker for our baseball cards 20 years ago.
Since we're a bit older now we have real jobs and make okay money for California. He's been taking bets from some friends and can pull in a couple thousand a week on sports bets. This money has turned him into a pretty big gambler when we get to the craps table. First throw he has 330 on the table and if he gets on a roll it's not uncommon for him to have 1500 out there. So that's the background. My other friend is getting married in November. He's having his bacholor party in Vegas from Thursday night - Sunday night. I posed this hypothetical to my gambling buddy. Would/Could you stay in Vegas the duration of the bachelor party for 1000? His response was "I wouldn't do it for $2000" I gamble quite a bit and I'd do it for 1000 no problem....probably 500. So does he have a serious problem? Thoughts? |

If he can make back the bet in a single roll of the dice probably not. Sounds like a grand doesn't mean much to him. If he can't stop when he wants to stop then there could be a problem.

Yeah he could make it all up on a single roll but that's only if things are really going his way. Typical weekend swings for him is probably +/- $4000 for the trip.

Re: $1000 to not gamble an entire weekend in Vegas
Without being able to gamble, I'd just be drinking constantly, and since I wouldn't be gambling the drinks wouldn't be free. So I think I'd lose money on this proposition. I would do this if my trip, expenses, etc, were 100% paid for, plus $1000 for the emotional distress of not being able to play poker.

Going to vegas and not gambling is like sleeping in separate beds on your honeymoon.

Re: $1000 to not gamble an entire weekend in Vegas
Why would I spend $1000 on hotels/flights going to Vegas to earn it back and not gamble?
