Default Player not in hand asks to see losing hand at showdown?

I know this has been asked but I can't seem to find the topic with search.

Situation was that I had AQo, raised PF, CBet whiffed flop, may or may not have fired again on turn. Checked river, player in hand turns over pocket 9s which win and as I'm about to muck player who wasn't in this hand at any point asks to see my hand. I should have just mucked because I'm 99% sure then the answer is no - instead I sort of dropped my cards and the dealer got a funny look, touched them to the muck and exposed them. Mmmmkay.

So is this common? And yes I know it's been asked a zillion times sorry, just trying to decide how I feel about it.

You're right, it's an FAQ. Search for "+IWTSTH" over the last few weeks. "I want to see that hand" is allowed by any player that was dealt cards in most casinos. A few limit it to players who play the hand to the showdown. And becoming more common but still the exception is to disallow it entirely unless the requesting player can make a case to the floor as to why he thinks the player whose cards he wants to see is cheating. If the dealer acceded to the request, apparently IWTSTH is permitted without restriction in that poker room.

Of course, if someone requests to see your hand too often or for the wrong reason, it is permissible to violently fling the cards at the offending player. I believe that is in Roberts Rules somewhere.

Robert's. rules section III subsection A.2.c ...

"If some friggin' moron keeps asking to see hands when they don't even have cards it is permissible to kick said moron square in the nuts."

I'm assuming this means he wasn't dealt in. He has no right to see your hand. Only players dealt in may actual request the IWTSTH ruling.

The rule states: Any player dealt in may request to see a called hand at showdown.

I was told that rule was in place if collusion is suspected.

You are 100% correct. Although people just use it nowadays to gain information. Some casinos, Wynn comes to mind, will have the dealer call the floor and the player who requested it will have to explain to the floor why he suspect collusion. I like this. I've been at a table and had a player say " I want to see all hands from here out" and the dealer called the floor, floor now asks who and why he thinks there's collusion. Floor rules that no he cannot see all hands.
