Do it on paper and watch for the part where the number you pick is factored out.

This thing almost gave me fits with pleasure in the office when someone showed it to me. It just kept guessing it EVERY time. I figured they had some super advanced mouse click mind-reading software or something. Then I figured it out and was sad.

You pick X = 10A + B, where A & B are one digit numbers.

They have you add A+B and subtract it from X. In other words, you're left with (10A+B-A-B) = 9A.

They put the same symbol at all the multiples of nine.
