[ QUOTE ]
Still, Rep. Goodlatte said that illegal online gambling adversely impacts the economy by draining dollars from the United States and serves as a vehicle for money laundering. [/ QUOTE ] It's not about morality, it's about money. |

Re: Party under attack by US government
I know there are a million threads about this, and I probably shouldn't encourage the proliferation, but this is the best article I've read about it. The most interesting part is the mention of a possible wto challenge to a ban. The wto usually seems to kick our ass when we break the rules, so that's a promising sign.
Distressing though, is that I never hear about any opposition which makes me think that this probably will get through the house and the senate (barring new developments). Also, is this going to make playing a prosecutable crime or merely opperating an online casino? I can see it being made essentially impossible to fund your account or login, but if the shutting down of cardrooms in ny is anything to go by, I'd be a little surprised if they went after the players. |

Re: Party under attack by US government
"The bill would allow federal, state, local, and tribal law-enforcement officials to seek help from Internet service providers to remove or disable access to Internet gambling sites that violate the act."
This is the scariest part. |

Re: Party under attack by US government
The 2nd scariest part:
"PartyGaming, which reported revenues in excess of $600 million in 2004, said 88 percent of that money came from the pockets of U.S. customers." |

That's why you regulate rather than prohibit! |

[/ QUOTE ] Didn't we give that much to Columbia to help them fight 'THEIR drug war'. I think we have spent like 400 times that much in Iraq? I also think we spent like $250 million to rent cruise ships for Hurricane Katrina victims? I think about three times the 600 million dollars was the amount of fraud debit cards handed out relating to Hurricane Katrina? I don't think the U.S. can survive without Party Poker's dollars? My point was that Party Poker can't survive without U.S. dollars.
