Default Laptop with usb mouse

I've been using a usb mouse with my laptop for 6 months and all of a sudden today it doesn't works. My computer say that usb is fonctionning correctly. Doesn't seem that way!

Do you know some other place I should check? No big change made recently.

Is there light coming out of the mouse? Do you have another machine to try the mouse on? You might try wiggling he cable, you could have broke something storing the mouse if you wrap the cable around the mouse. Cheap mice are really cheap, which is good, or you can upgrade to wireless for more money.

Yeah try the mouse on another machine. Other things you can try are plugging the mouse into a different USB port and reinstalling the mouse drivers (logitech setpoint for example). Computer voodoo ftw!

This is the strange thing, the light is on as usuall when I plug it, but immiedatly after it goes off. I don't have another machine to try it. Yes it's a cheap mouse and I store it 1-2 times a day but I dont roll the cable, I just put it loose in a drawer. I have to say that it's my mouse that suffer the most when I'm on tilt due to no-limit holdem!

I might consider buying a wireless one. Thanks.

You have some sort of integrated pointing device with the laptop, right? Touchpad or lil' eraser thing, or something? Does that still work?

Otherwise I agree with Kerowo and LeapFrog. New mouse/new port/new machine. (One at a time.) Basic troubleshooting.

One other thing I have to say, I have only 2 usb port and my mouse was working on both. 5 days ago or so, one of my usb port would not work with my mouse and the other was doing fine. But today both of them wont work. Strange.

I wouldn't be surprised if the connection was dying on the mouse, and one port managed a slightly stronger connection, so survived longer. Please try the mouse on another machine.

do you have any other USB accessories that you can plug into the laptop to test that everything is working fine on that end? If the hardware is all working good, then I would focus on software and try reinstalling the mouse drivers.
