Default Old people are terrible at poker

this is a well known fact. but i was in the shower today (beating it to antonius obv) and i had a strange thought:

what happens when all the young internet players get old?

this will be sooner for me than many of you (im 24) but within 40 years, we will all be pretty damn old. will we just one day wake up and be grumpy old nits? if so, what is the cutoff, and when should i cash in my monies for good? im very disturbed by this thought, and i hope the elderly will stay out of my future antonius fantasies

If this really bothers you just live a life of excess and die young.

What is your definition of old?

it isn't that old people are bad at poker, it's that fish are. Most old people tend to be fish because they grew up and learned to play poker in a time when poker strategy was nonexistent. Add that to the fact that most of the old fish aren't that bright to begin with and most likely have only a HS education. AND HS in the 20/30/40s was a lot more forgiving and less advanced than it is today.

It's hard to say what will happen, but I expect our generation will be different from previous generations due to the amount of poker knowledge that has been made widely available. The old people that play that way today are the ones who had few or no resources to learn proper strategy, and they've learned through trial and error that being a nit is a good way to minimize losses. A fair number learned in informal military games.

Also, most of us probably will only play the game sparingly when we're that old if we play at all. I'd much rather travel when I'm retired instead of playing poker. You can't take the money with you.

In any case, you're forgetting that there will be a whole new generation of players to make the games good.
