10NL FR: push or check/call overpair with flush redraw oop
Button is playing his 3rd hand at the table. I'm still trying to get the basics straight. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (9 handed) Button ($5.20) SB ($7.30) BB ($5.80) Hero ($16) UTG+1 ($9.45) MP1 ($4.85) MP2 ($10.40) MP3 ($6.95) CO ($3.25) Preflop: Hero is UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $0.4</font>, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, MP3 calls $0.40, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Button calls $0.40, SB calls $0.35, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>. Flop: ($1.70) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font> SB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $1.2</font>, MP3 folds, Button calls $1.20, SB folds. Turn: ($4.10) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font> <font color="#CC3333">Hero ???</font> Check and call any bet? pushing is only likely to be called by a hand that beats me, but checking could induce a bluff from a worse hand, as I figure it. |

that is, in fact, what I did. I just got to thinking afterward that I didn't much want a call, so what was I gaining?

Pair of queens will call here often. The 3rd heart may hurt you but it also may give you fold equity. If he hit his flush you have a redraw to the nut flush. I'd be $3.

Re: 10NL FR: push or check/call overpair with flush redraw oop
button only has $3.6 left, so I put him all in.
the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that checking might have been stronger. A good queen will probably call the bet, but 2pr, sets, flushes call too. If I check and call a bet, his range has more queens, plus the bluffs. Don't I prefer getting money into the pot against the wider range? Fold equity? I thought that meant getting a stronger hand to fold. I don't see that happening here. |
