Default JJ overpair line check

Vil is playing 24/16/4. We've been 3betting each other evey now and then on a few tables, but nothing crazy.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em (NL$400) (6 handed) link
MP ($150.74)
CO ($1130.40)
Button ($109.00)
SB ($303.00)
Hero ($625.60)
UTG ($851.60)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
2 folds, CO raises to $16.00, 2 folds, Hero raises to $48.00, CO calls $36.00.

Flop: ($106.00) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $88.00, CO calls $88.00.

Turn: ($282.00) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $188.00, Hero folds.

I think he is slowing play on over here very often. General thoughts?

I don't mind the PF raise too much with these stacks since you'd have to go quite a bit bigger to really effectively deny implied odds. Going to a standard 4x here leaves you with $120 in the pot and 560 behind. You'd have to go to $100 before you got to a point where you can pot push, which is pretty excessive, and probably leaves you behind a lot of ranges.

You really think he's slowplaying on the flop? People slowplay this board?

I'd shove, as played, I think he's drawing.

Hmmm... to me it looks like on the flop I am always getting raised by hands like AsKs and he could easily keep playing slow with KK/AA and the obvious 88/99.

On the turn I think his range is maybe 20% playing back light, some junk but 80% of the time it is gonna be a set or bigger pair. Thus I folded.

Any1 else agree with this or go w Jim?

if he's raising AsKs etc hes probably also raising QQ+. He's likely calling you pf w/ lots of hands that are drawing here that would rather not raise the flop given stack sizes so im w/ jim on the turn push.

I just say F it and bet 225, call a push

got to protect your preflop 3bets!

unless of course you aren't or don't plan to 3bet light. then maybe not.

i hate this.

this might be the only time in the history of 2p2 where the phrase "if you are going to reraise preflop, you cannot fold on this board" might ACTUALLY be applicable.

if you reraise preflop and you get this board and this action, you have to push. if you think he'd never call with worse here (and that's a fine read to have, i'm sure you're correct vs some nitty people), then you're turning JJ into 72o which is retarded, and you should just call preflop.

I disagree with a lot of the posts. I hate a shove because he won't call you with worse and the only thing you do is deny a draw. Its close between shoving, folding, and call and making a decision on the river.

Normally I would make the same bet on the flop as I did preflop to control the size of the pot. Once you bet $88 on that flop and he calls.....its going to be a big pot.

88/99 are perfectly resonable hands he could have, but most people don't slow play a set on a board like this. I am inclined to call the turn and if he bets big on the river I would let it go.

btw your preflop bet is fine. I would bet more if stacks were a lot deeper, but since you are 3-betting often, its fine, IMO.
