Non-Strategy Poker books
I know that this has been covered (search funktion meow meow chow chow), but still ....
I think I have every poker strategy book worth owning, so not interested in those, but just ordered Shut up and deal by Jesse May as recommended by Matt Flynn. So I'm basically looking for a pleasant read, any suggestions and especially why ?? |

Re: Non-Strategy Poker books
I kinda liked the book about Andy Beal's $5000-$10000 HU LHE against the best players in the world: "The professor, the banker and the suicide king."

Re: Non-Strategy Poker books
'Big Deal' by British journalist Anthony Holden? It chronicles his year as a professional poker player somewhere in '91 IIRC. The sequel ('Bigger Deal' is debuting somewhere this or next week).
It's an amusing tale of the 'old poker', peopled with legendary poker players like Amarillo Slim, Eric Drache and the likes. (I sound like a blurb writer but I'm not, I promise) |

The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King was a great read IMO. I also enjoyed ace on the river.

Re: Non-Strategy Poker books
"Cards" by Jonathan Maxwell is a good read, it's a pretty raw story following the day to day exploits, ups and downs of a LA area grinder. The hand descriptions are a bit lacking sometimes, but I found this book very readable and strangely compelling. Don't expect much in the way of good strategy advice however.

Re: Non-Strategy Poker books
The Biggest Game in Town, by Al Alvarez is a beautifully written classic. It belongs in the library of everyone who loves the game. (and some that don't!)

Thx all .... I'll get most of those, except for the McManus book, there is something about him I just don't like
