Default Turtle Lake, WI - Experiences?

Friends,

A couple gents and myself plan on hitting Turtle Lake for some poker action in June.

Here's what we know:
- The 1/2 NL game is juicy
- The Saturday morning tournament ($100+$15) is fun and not terribly structured
- The room is OK

But here's what we don't know:
- Where should we eat? Are there any good restaurants in the area?
- Are there any good strip clubs in the area?
- Other party spots?
- Anything else we should know about the room/casino/location?

All stories and/or wisdom will be appreciated.

TY.

True. A bunch of regulars that know each other and are pretty bad. They make some crazy bluffs sometimes and are really tilt prone. Play ABC poker and you'll win tons. Also, if you're young, you'll get absolutely no respect it seems. Just take the guys to valuetown with big hands

It's very popular. I haven't played in it
- The room is OK
Yes. Nothing fancy. Dealers are alright.

But here's what we don't know:

There is free food in the poker room. They have hot dogs, brats, cookies, fruit and fountain pop. The cookies are realllllly good. There is a little restaurant below the poker room that is very mediocre. I don't know about food around it, I assume you can find some fast food somewhere.
- Are there any good strip clubs in the area?
I would assume not. It is in rural Wisconsin. I may be wrong. Minneapolis would be the closes option for this I'd assume.
- Other party spots?
Dunno, I just go home to Minneapolis when I'm done playing.
- Anything else we should know about the room/casino/location?
It's not hard to find, it's right on the road (the parking lot is in the back). The poker room is to the right when you enter up the stairs. 100BB buy-in cap. You have to pay for alcohol (21+ casino). Can't think of anything else.

All stories and/or wisdom will be appreciated.

I've averaged around $100/hr playing 1/2, which is just absurd, but my sample size is almost significant (~25 hours). It's a soft game... c-bets work, 2-barrels work, but don't bluff much. Raise your draws and have a aggro image, but play tight. This will make the old guys call you down with anything. I flopped 5 sets and stacked someone each time.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

This is good stuff. I wasn't thinking about the 'rural Wisconsin' thing when I asked about strip clubs.

Seems like where there's a casino, there's usually a strip club. But I've def. been wrong before

I put in a decent amount of time there 2-3 years ago when in Mineeapolis and had to take some time away from the 8-16 and 15-30 limit games at canterbury

Back then they had 1-2 and 2-5 NL and the games were super soft, a ton of bluffing so you really had to go into ABC mode, this was a change for me as in Iowa it was more passive play calling you down versus at Turtle Lake, a lot more agressive crazy players, just pay attention to people and you will be fine

$100/hr is defiently small sample size, i am agreeing you can crush this game due to the players but for about 1/3 of that amount over 100s of hours (if only they were more passive i think it would be easier to extract a little more value but by some of them being crazy aggros, it takes away some of the call staiton value).

All I can say is really pay attention and try to change seats at the table to get yourself in a good spot in relation to the tight/aggro players and you will be fine

Thanks for your thoughts - I appreciate them. I can't wait to play - but you're right, I'll prob. have to go into ABC mode.

Again, I'm looking for non-poker info here, though - restaurants, bars, strip clubs, etc.

Anyone else?
