San Jose trip advice

I will be in San Jose on business soon and would like some information on the card rooms there. My B&M background is that I’ve played in Vegas a ½ dozen times or so and Tunica about once a month for a couple of years so I’m familiar with how they are run but have never been in a CA card room.

I will be staying at a convention center hotel; there appear to be 2 card rooms about equal distance, Bay101 and Garden City? Preferences?

I will not have a car, so I should take a cab?

I will be playing on a Saturday and maybe a week night or two, how long a wait can I expect before getting a table? Like 4/8 or 3/6.

Spread limit: This is like no-limit but with a hard max on each bet? Anything else I’m missing?

Garden City’s website is worthless, but fromBay101 it would seem that the way they take the rake is different. Flat fee per hand? Not a percent up to a max amount?

Do they run bad beat jackpots?

Do they give you comps? Do you do the player card routine?

One round trip cab will probably be $30 + tip. You might be able to rent a car for that. You can take light rail if you don't mind walking about a mile.

No 4/8 at Bay 101. Weekend about 60 to 120 minute wait, weekday from 30 to 60 min.

No comps but food is cheap and high quality.

Flat rake at both places. $4 for 7+ players, $3 for 6 players, and $1 for 5 or less and for no flop. The wait is much longer at Bay 101 and the players are more loose. I prefer Garden City, but its just a personal taste.

Yes, Garden City is not as busy as Bay 101. You can walk in there at 9 a.m. on a Saturday and find empty tables. Not so at Bay 101. I don't think I've ever seen an empty table at Bay 101. Bay 101 is a bit more upscale but there's certainly nothing wrong with Garden City.

Play there will be much better that what you're used to in the limit games 6/12 and up. 3/6 I found was really soft though. I've only played spread limit one session at Garden City. I thought it was similar to vegas 1/2 NL. Bay 101 seemed to suit my tastes, but I didn't care for the magnetic chips they use; too hard to shuffle and too many times putting 4 chips out instead of 3. If you've been to Borgata you know what I'm talking about. Never seen them used in Vegas tho.

i remember i was there one day like 2 years ago at like 4am and there were exactly 2 tables going. it was really eerie and ive never seen that happen since.
