Calling turns my hand face up, so I raise. (semi-low content)
15/30 game at the local card barn, currently 8 handed. Verrrry loose, very passive. Better conditions can not be found. SSHE 101.
UTG is playing 100% of his hands, without regard to price. He's also made a serial run of river bluffs with hands like bottom pair. Button is betting all scare cards or betting any holding against any weakness. I get dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG+1 and over limp. There's one fold, the HJ raises, and seven see the flop for 14SB. Flop: K 6 6 rainbow. Hand is checked around to the button who bets. UTG raises. Figuring I can't possibly call here without turning my hand face up, I raise. I get an overcall from MP. Hijack looks disgusted and folds. Button calls. UTG calls. Turn is a Q, completing the rainbow. UTG bets, I raise, MP calls, button folds. River is a 9. UTG checks, I bet, MP screws his face and folds, UTG calls. Am I mistaken in the belief that a flop overcall is not hugely transparent or am I giving the table too much credit? My live play is grossly out of tune. Do I lose everyone but the other 6 with a turn raise? Is a river move best with the likely nuts and an UTG player who is likely to get out of line? |

I like leading the flop to avoid any transparency. As played, I think c/3-betting the flop is OK.

with 7 to the flop and you 2nd to act
id prefer to lead out and pray for a raise so you can 3bet taking this line instead may pick you up a few more bets who knows with UTGs crazy tendencies the flop action may have been capped but yes i believe you are correct in your assumption that if you just overcall your hand is turned face up so since you checked a 3bet is correct and what was nice UTG still bet into you on the turn |

jfk -- Yeah, cold-calling a flop on a paired board is like hiring a barbershop quartet to march into the cardroom and sing a ripping number about you having trips:
"Goodnight ladies, goodnight ladies Goodnight ladies, we're gonna leave you now jfk has trip sixes, jfk has trip sixes the guy who called has a six in his haaaaaaaaaaand... AND YOU'D BETTER FOLD." It's so reliable that you can actually c/f AA on the turn if someone does this. That said, I'm not sure how many people in your game are even thinking about that. So many of them are still playing on zero level that you might be able to get away with it. Still, I probably wouldn't chance it. I would bet out on the flop to represent a weak K and let an actual K raise you. Failing that, I like your check/3-bet. F*&% 'em. |

The player behind was still willing to cold call a turn raise despite Private Joker's Loney Hearts Club Band breaking into tune. |

I can see the temptation to try and c-r HJ on the flop, with so many people between him and you, but I think betting out is still best. If the check-raise goes bad, it's a disaster (flop checked through), but some awesome things can happen if you bet out, like getting a raise from HJ and several cold-callers who you can then take to value town. Or maybe someone will decide that you can't possibly have a 6 because you played it too fast, and then gives you lots of action on the turn with a K.
As played, I like the 3-bet a lot. I like the turn raise too - a lot of players will call multiple bets on the flop really light and give up the turn, so most of the people you scare away with a raise were going to fold anyway. Nice hand. |

i like leading especially in a passive field for play balance especially since you may want to play some K's like this...
