Installing memory
I have a dimension 4700 that has four memory slots and it had two 256 mbs memory cards in it.
There are two slots with white clips and two slots with black clips. The paired memory is supposed to be in the same color of slots. My new memory is 1gb each paired for 2gb. I put it in the white slots. I put the two 256 mb cards in the two black slots. Questions: 1. Is putting both sets of memory in faster than just replacing the old memory with the new? Can this vary? 2. While in windows can I check how much memory my computer has working? |

1. Is putting both sets of memory in faster than just replacing the old memory with the new? Can this vary? [/ QUOTE ] Some people claim that with some AMD processors you might notice a slight performance hit with all banks populated. However, this seems to be an effect that is only noticable with some sophisticated benchmarking tests. I wouldn't worry about it. [ QUOTE ] 2. While in windows can I check how much memory my computer has working? [/ QUOTE ] Right click on my computer, select properties. It's in there somewhere. |

Re: Installing memory
Forgive me I have no idea how memory works
Does it matter what bank I put either pair in. EX: I switch the 2gb from the white to black bank, any noticeable difference? |
