Quick question: the former Barbary Coast or Luxor
Think in terms of room amenities, overall hotel appearance, pool, etc.
Ignore gambling aspects. Which would you choose? |

No pool at the BC. The rooms were fine, but the location is unbeatable.

I'd stay at BC, b/c you probably aren't going to hang around either hotel anyway and BC has a much better location and plasma TVs in every room.

Re: Quick question: the former Barbary Coast or Luxor
Recently stayed at Bill's (BC) and it was fine. I have stayed at Luxor in the the past. Luxor is certainly a little nicer, but given the awesome location of Bill's and the crap location of Luxor I would take Bill's every time. If you only care about hotel appearance, then by all means stay at Luxor. It's not near the level of Bellagio or its ilk though, so it's not like you'll be a true balla or anything.

Re: Quick question: the former Barbary Coast or Luxor
there is virtually nothing playable at Bill's since Harrah's converted it. no poker room either. since you didn't mention cost, I presume they are charging about the same as the Luxor.
Bill's location is great as others already mentioned, but you will pretty much use them only as a hotel as the gambling there is horrid now. if all you need is a place to sleep, there may be other cheap center strip options available such as IP, casino royale, flamingo, the motel 8 next to ellis island, and probably more. |

Think in terms of room amenities, overall hotel appearance, pool, etc. Ignore gambling aspects. Which would you choose? [/ QUOTE ] Rooms - The tower rooms at Luxor are nice. Just a notch below 4 star places like Aladdin and Monte Carlo. Rooms at Bills are supposed to be nice. Pyramid rooms are getting worn and are not as nice. Pool - Luxor has one Bills doesn't. Location - Can't beat BC's location. Right in mid strip, across from Bellagio and Cesars. Real easy walk to Venetian and Mirage. Actually anything between TI and Aladdin is easily walkable. Wynn is doable but about a 20-30 minute walk. Luxor is near Trop, MGM, MB, Excalibur, and NYNY. Cab anywhere else. Casino/restaurants/hotel appearance: Luxor and its not even close. |

Re: Quick question: the former Barbary Coast or Luxor
Thanks for all the input. I already had a reservation for 5/4-5/6 at Bill's for $190/nt (DeLaHoya and Kentucky Derby weekend, ouch!) and found an offer for Luxor for $150/nt so I booked it too. Now its a matter of which one to cancel. We are going to Vegas to see a Ray Romano show at Mirage, and some friends are staying there, so Bill's was preferred for location. But since my wife doesn't gamble at all, hotel amenities are important. I think the extra $40 a night and lack of a pool at Bill's clearly tips the scales to Luxor.
I will be doing all my gambling from 11PM - 4AM, after my wife goes to sleep. That is the time you will find me at the NL donk table in the UCLA baseball cap. |
