You don't want to get the most expensive thing obviously, but you also don't want to get the cheapest. I recomend the chicken as it is usally cheap and delicious!

I won't [censored] with you thought it's tempting.

Just follow his lead. If he orders a drink, order something similar and basic (eg no [censored] daquiris, think vodka tonic or such), no beer unless he orders one first (unlikely). To be clear, no drinks unless he goes first.

As for food, same deal. Match his courses so you're not sitting there plateless like a tool. Pick something you like and don't worry so much about price, he won't care if it's $38 vs $30 dollars. He's not paying.
