Best #1 NFL Draft pick of all-time
ESPN is counting down the best draft picks since 1967, by draft position. E.g., the best #5 pick of all-time was Tomlinson:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft0...ory?id=2844979 Who will #1 be? The top choices seem to be OJ Simpson (who may be tainted for his post-career allegations), John Elway, Bruce Smith, Peyton Manning, and Terry Bradshaw. Here's a list of the #1 picks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._draft_choices Unfortunately, I can't find a list of #2 picks. |

Now it is Elway. In a few years it will probably be Manning.

If it's not already Manning, it will be in the future.

Re: Best #1 NFL Draft pick of all-time
I think some weight needs to be given to who else was being considered for the #1 pick at the time.
Is Elway really a great #1 pick when he was considered the obvious #1 pick and any team would have made it? Compare that to taking Peyton Manning when several teams had Ryan Leaf rated higher at the time. |
